A hybrid art and science project funded by KU Leuven
Sculpture "The Egg" © 2023 K. Peeters
A collection of sculptures, made of Flemish clay, on a modelled pedestal. The plinth includes soil from all continents. The farmer is central, along with the various actors of our food system. The artworks are a reflection on interhuman relationships.
The sculptures are a means to stimulate dialogue about a sustainable food system in relation to a healthy planet. The sculptures can develop further into a revaluation of dominant normative frameworks and are hence a stepping stone to a new identity.
The project is a joint effort of researchers at the division of bioeconomics at KU Leuven and UCLL, health program, Gasthuisberg campus.
Both students and staff work together to use community art to provide a number of fine sculptures with an appropriate backdrop. FARM-mate creates a symbolic space where visitors can literally experience the integration of art and culture within the institutions.
